When?

This is a 4-month Program, January-April

Who?

Beginner Backcountry Skiers and Splitboarders

Where?

Park City, UT & Wasatch Mountain Range

The Whole Story:

Backcountry Mentorship Days

This will be a full two days in the Wasatch range to help you learn the valuable skills of skinning, using maps, measuring slope angle, transitioning with ease, picking safe routes, putting that avalanche education into action, AND SO MUCH MORE.

1-on-1 Holistic Coaching

This is tailored to YOU and your goals. These sessions will be twice a month for 75 minutes via Zoom. We will go over (but is not limited to): gear and skills questions, goal planning, how to read the forecasts, nutrition, mindset, lifestyle balance, and so on..

Holistic Coaching Sessions

These group coaching gatherings are designed to bring together a small community of like minded women to get to know each other, build each other up, and share our experiences. Hence the name, SUMMIT SISTERS! We will be covering Strength Training, Nutrition, Mindset, and Skill building during these sessions.

This Program is SO MUCH MORE than a backcountry mentorship program. Summit Sisters addresses the complexities of the whole human with a holistic approach, while adding in the hard skills we need to be safe in the backcountry. And most importantly, it’s a community of like-minded people who you can learn and grow with.

A discouraging mindset can stop us from ever attempting our goals and dreams.. even though our skills and physical ability are ready to learn and grow. My goal as your coach is to uncover these mindset blocks, shine the light on them, dissect them, and then give you the support and the techniques you need to overcome them.

Nutrition is also a key player. More often then not I find my clients are under fueled and/or at a loss of what they should be fueling with. This can make or break your training and experiences in the backcountry. Proper fueling can prevent bonks, lessen that next day fatigue, and help you build strength from all of your hard work.

Then of course the in the field skills! I have partnered with Inspired Summit Adventures for this mentorship portion. Shaun, the owner and lead guide, has been in the industry for 12+ years and has so much to offer the group. She is my mentor and is a strong advocate for getting more women out into the backcountry by sharing her skills and knowledge.

Meet your Health Coach and Backcountry Mentor, Sam Crow

Sam was born and raised in northern MN, and now has lived in Park City, UT for 7 years. The majority of that time has been spent exploring the Wasatch and Uinta mountain ranges. She immediately fell in love with human powered expeditions and getting off grid in the heart of the mountains. She received her Recreational Avalanche Safety 1 & 2, Companion Rescue, First Aid CPR, and her Wilderness First Responder certification all within the past 5 years. She is taking her Professional Avalanche Safety course this January, as it is important to her to keep learning so she can be a better asset and leader in her local backcountry community.

Sam has always had a passion for nutrition and mindset, and noticed most people weren’t addressing these key players in their active lifestyles. This led her to go back to school and get her Health Coaching Certification from IIN. Bridging her two passions in life, mountain sports and wellness, Sam Crow Coaching was born. Sam Crow Coaching takes a holistic approach to backcountry mentorship and with the goal of getting more women out in the mountains confidently and safely.

Meet your Avalanche Instructor and Lead Guide, Shaun Deutschlander

Shaun, owner of Inspired Summit Adventures, is a certified wellness coach, professional skier, seasoned mountain guide, AIARE L3, PSIA, WFR, OEC, and First Aid CPR certified. Through a holistic approach to mountains and life Shaun holds a space for her clients to engage fully in their surroundings while utilizing the activity and a consciences dialogue to facilitate personal growth.

A New York native, Shaun was born with a love of the outdoors. Throughout her childhood and young adult life she would hike, bike, climb, paddle and ski her way through much of North America’s mountains. Shaun graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Sociology. During her years there she completed the National Outdoor Leadership’s glacial mountaineering program and became a sponsored professional Big Mountain Skier.

Now living in Park City, Utah Shaun has 12 years of guiding experience including cat skiing and backcountry ski guide, avalanche educator, mountain biking, rock climbing, and hiking.

This 4 month Program Connects all parts of the sport:

Mind

With 1-on-1 coaching we will examine areas of high stress and neglect and restore balance in your everyday life. For those challenging times in the mountains while we are trying to responsibly progress our skills it is also easy to get caught up in your thoughts. We will talk about techniques to release the sense of overwhelm that might get in the way.

Body

We will go over how to properly fuel your body. Everyone is different, and there is not a one size fits all diet. With our 1-on-1 coaching we will find out what your body thrives on and how to implement any changes that need to be made. We will also go over stretching & strengthening exercises for on the skin track and riding alpine!

Spirit

There is no doubt, being in nature (especially on top of a snow covered peak!) creates a spiritual experience. Connection to your local land fills the soul in a way nothing else can. We will cultivate a spirit of awareness and compassion throughout this program. When your body and mind are happy and in sync and you sprinkle a little bit of powder heaven into the mix, the spirit follows suit.
